Ok, I must admit when my friends from Twitter sunshine_00 and iveeanne suggested that I read "The Screamers" I wasn't all that jazzed about it. Just by the title, I thought for sure it was some kind of horror fic. And I am not a horror girl. But they convienced me that it was SOOO GOOOD, so I had to give it a try. Horror Fic it AIN'T - but it does deal with some very mature real life horror. This fic is compelling - I have read all 23 chapters in the last 2 days and I will tell you that late yesterday, I was planning on reviewing this fic as a "Hearts and Candy-Coated Kisses" story. But that is FAR from the truth. Once this story turns dark, it does so in a hurry and it am just now coming out of it at chapter 23. I commend KiyaRaven for taking on such a delicate subject like homelessness. I think she does a really good job at it. Obviously, Bella doesn't STAY homeless in the story, but KiyaRaven doesn't allow it to be easy for her either. She gets off the street, but there is a price.
In most of the Fic I read, usually Edward is the strong character and Bella is weak and needs to be taken care of and rescued. In my opinion, Bella is the stronger character in this fic, and that is refreshing. I'm not saying that you won't experience Edward trying to save her and protect her at every turn - but in this story Bella is TOUGH! She has had to be. She is gritty and mouthy and she actually has a spine. This story losely goes along with Twilight in a crazy not even close way.... and we all know what happens to the pair in New Moon. I know lots of fans out there weren't too happy when Bella just took him back, no quesitons asked. Well, this Bella isn't that easy on poor Edward. She makes him work for it and I like that about her.
I don't want you to think that this story is ALL ANGSTY all the time, it isn't. In fact, there are some real comical moments in this story. And the Lemons - well, let's just say that this story is lemony fresh! The lemons between Jasper and Alice are...Well, I think you need to read about them for yourself! The Author is excellent and she has found a way to make my emotions run the gammit with The Screamers! I recommend you give this one a try if you aren't reading it already.
