Master of my Heart by BriannaMarley


This is how BriannaMarley describes her fic: After joining a prestigious and illustrious private club built around sexual dominance and role play; Bella enters into a submissive relationship with wealthy and predominant businessman Edward Cullen. OK - before we go any further - I am going to assume that you girls know about as much about BDSM as I did when I started reading these stories. I know, I shouldn't assume anything, but in this instance I am thinking that SOMEONE out there would appreciate a little clarification on BDSM before they jump in with both feet. If not, just skip ahead to the actual review. I did a little research and this is what I found:

BDSM = it is a lifestyle that involves Bondage and Discipline / Dominance and Submission / Sadism and Masochism.
There are many facets of BDSM, and not one is more correct or wrong than the other. To most people who are not part of the lifestyle it will come across as kinky sex. But BDSM is NOT about sex. It's about power and control that is consensually given and taken. While a lot of it can be sexual it is not the driving force.
And the first rule of BDSM should always be: Safe, Sane, and Consensual.

Masochism
1. Psychiatry – the condition in which sexual gratification depends on suffering, physical pain, and humiliation.
2. Gratification gained from pain, deprivation, degradation, etc., inflicted or imposed on oneself, either as a result of one’s own actions or the actions of others, esp. the tendency to seek this form of gratification.
3. The act of turning one’s destructive tendencies inward or upon oneself.
4. The tendency to find pleasure in self-denial, submissiveness, etc.

Sadism
1. Psychiatry. Sexual gratification gained through causing pain or degradation to others. Compare to masochism
2. Any enjoyment in being cruel.
3. Extreme cruelty

Actual Review: So, as I have said in the past - I like my Edward a little on the "forceful" side. I wanted to see exactly HOW forceful I liked him so I started reading a few BDSM fics. I have read about 6 of them. Some are quite hard and scary. I am not sure I am ready for full blown BDSM. Some of it is a little more than I am comfortable with. When it comes to sharing and when it comes to boy on boy sex - It is further than I am really wanting to go. So I decided to review Master of my Heart. This story is NOT a HARD CORE and UNCOMFORTABLE BDSM story. It does have BDSM elements. Bella enjoys being dominated - but as the story goes on, we find that Bella isn't about laying down and just letting people walk all over her. Edward enjoys dominating - but as the story goes on we find out just how much he really loves her.

Some of the BDSM stories I have read lean so far on the Sadism side of the Dominate that they forget to stress how much respect and love he has for his submissive. I use the term 'He' losely when I refer to the Dom because I am actually reading on where Bella is the Dom and Edward is the Submissive. But this review is not about that story... This review is about BriannaMarley's awesome story. And don't sell her short folks - she is Awesome. I have truly enjoyed this story from start to finish. I LOVE that Bella is not totally dependent on Edward and I LOVE how much gentleness he showes to her. This is actually the first BDSM story where Bella (the submissive) is able to talk her way out of a spanking - LOL! I'm not sure how true to life that is.

I am not in the BDSM community - and I know that there are lots of things that I know NOTHING about. But I know a good story when I read it and this is one of them. The story is compelling and interresting. It is not just copious sex - there is romance and mystery as well. But - the Lemons are scorching HOT. If you are interested in the BDSM community - please do not depend on Fan Fiction to tell the whole story. Please do your research and talk to people in the community before you do ANYTHING you are not personally comfortably with. This story deals with a previous BDSM relationship gone wrong. There are some dark parts to it - so if you are not over 18, please wait for the next story.

  2. TBH I am a bit wary of the BDSM stories too, not my cup of tea, but I'll give it a go. Started a new story today on FF which has totally reeled me in so far in what I have read called A Rough Start

    Thanks for your wonderful post. I've read The Submissive, The Dominant, and now The Training from I tarasueme. I did this on your recommendation. I enjoy this story, because for those who do not know the first two are Bella's side and then Edward's side and then finally the last is their story afterwards.

    In the past I was VERY wary of this story. I simply didn't want to read about BDSM. I didn't find it interesting and honestly...I've been abused...sexually and physcially and therefore I was honestly scared to hear about the subject matter.

    So what the hell made me like these stories? Awesome writing, attention to detail and character development, and constant support and hand holding from the writer the whole way. Taramesue always explained things, warned us, and also took questions and comments. I felt like I was in the process of reading a good love story while unraveling this lifestyle that had terrified or disgusted me in the past.

    Now let's clear things up shall we? There are parts of the story that I didn't like because I can't relate to wanting to be THIS submissive sexually and really at all in any other way. I won't go into my sexual practices but like any woman sometimes you want to be swept up off the floor and carried upstairs ala Gone With the Wind style and have your brains screwed out. Sometimes I want to do that to my husband. This is like...taking that to the extreme while snorting coke and drinking liquid herion. Haha. Had to pull the herion crap. Like Sandy said its sometimes about sex, but then sometimes about only worrying about serving the other needs no matter what.

    Another reason I had a problem with it was that well...I would NEVER think or even want to do some of the positions or things they do. Its just not desired in me for one reason or another, but I must admit it has made alot of things less scary to me because the mystery is gone. The writer is that detailed.

    But all and all I loved taramesue's stories. I will continue to read whatever she posts. Will I read this story that you've posted about today? Later in the future. Because of my past I really can only handle one hardcore story every few monthes. I have PTSD and well...this stuff is not really abusive because Bella or Edward want this, but sometimes I can't seperate that and my own bad memories come back. Its just something I have to live with.

    I must say though that I was laughing the ENTIRE time the story suddenly diverted for a trip to Tampa, FL where I happen to freakn' live. The story is during the Super Bowl that we had down here. It was really weird hearing about all these places that I've gone to (oh yes, I've been to Bern's stake house. The desert room is heaven painted black.) and seeing it through the characters eyes was really entertaining.

    Okay I will shut up now about taramesue. Thanks so much Sandy for your continued support of our fanfiction addiction, and also I thank you for showing us new and interesting stuff. I don't read it all, but I read what I can handle and you've always been supportive of that. What I've learned in strange ways has helped my recovery and made me comfortable with my own sexuality.

  7. I was pleasantly surprised with this story. I too have read almost all the Dom/Sub stories. I even read the hardcore ones. Like HARDCORE. The reason this one so enchanted me, was the story outside of the BSDM. I found that I like the domination in small amounts. So this story, along with MOTU, have become the ones I most enjoy. I loved your review. I thought you nailed everything. :)

I've gotten some great reception mentioning your recommendation as their initial reasoning to clicking my story. So I thank you soooo much. Words cant express how much I appreciate all the love and enthusiasm to continue with it. Its mind blowing and I love you much, from the bottom of my heart. <3

    I should probably mention that I am not involved in a BDSM style relationship, I do have a girlfriend who is, and who I base the majority of my story line off of. Not to mention the loads of research and help I get from others who are familiar with the lifestyle.

    BDSM relationships can have many, many layers and variety's. No one lifestyle is consider better or more accurate than another. Its give and take between partners and getting what they need from one another, whether that be physically or emotionally. (And believe me, a great deal of it is more emotional that physical.) A D/s (Dominant/submissive) relationship is based entirely on rules and trust. The two must feel comfortable and safe at all times. This is the foundation of any relationship.

    I'm honestly no expert, nor have I ever claimed to be. I get a lot of questions concerning BDSM and I try my hardest to send them off in the right direction. If you're looking to get into BDSM, my suggestion is RESEARCH. A LOT. Don't just rush into the first thing that comes along,

    I've said it more time than I can think, and I'll say it again,

    In MoMH James is not a proper Dom. Everything he does to Bella in those flashbacks is WRONG on so many levels. He is the perfect example of what a Dom is not. Unfortunately Bella learns the hard way.

    Yes, MoMH is a story about BDSM,buts its also about self discovery and healing. I haven't done your typical chock-fulla-smut for a very good reason. I wanted to set apart from whats out there, because BDSM isn't entirely about sex, sex, and more hott, fuck-awesome sex. ;) Although its fun to write, its not realistic to the lifestyle.

    With MoMH, I hope to get that message across and show that its not always sunshine and flowers. This story is pretty much true, aside from a few details. My friend did live though an extremely terrifying ordeal with a previous Dominant which she had been in a long term collared relationship with. Today, she tries to move on and forget the horrible things that had happened at the hands of that horrible man. She's finally, thankfully, at a place where she is comfortable with a man who Dominates her and loves her more than anything in the world. Shes got her Edward now, and shes working on healing her old wounds. But it certainly takes time and patients. I'm thankful that he's been more than accommodating and attentive to her. He's what she needs, and that my friends is what D/s and BDSM is all about.

    All right, I need to stop rambling. I'm sorry, : ) I'll stop now.

  9. Can't lie, I love BDSM ff. But like you, I have issues with BDSM slash like E/J. It's just the Edward part. I mean, truthfully, I have issues with him and Bella half the time because he should only be with me. LOL

    But the way you describe this is interesting. Bella is more autonomous, it seems, than most BDSM ff. I like it.
