Expectations and Other Moving Pieces by chrometurtle

What does Chrometurtle say about her fic? Everything I had done in my life seemed to lead up to this moment. The moment when I found myself bound inextricably to a man I didn’t love, trapped in a life I didn’t want. And if I left him, I would be entirely alone.  Twilight - Rated: M - English - Angst/Romance - Chapters: 25 - Words: 94,998 - Reviews: 4911 - Updated: 2-17-10 - Published: 10-13-09 - Bella & Edward

You know when someone tells you “This story owns my Soul…”? You know automatically that the person you are speaking with loves the story they are talking about. Expectations and Other Moving Pieces is one of those stories for me. I want to share with you just a couple of the comments that this story has received:

• guh. idk how you do it, but you have me entirely entranced w. your words...and wrapped around your pinky. seriously, i cant get enough of EOMP (cravingtwilight)

• aw. how do you write this?? lol.. it's so depressing yet not at the same time.. i can't describe it.. :) either way, i love it :D (Karianne Cullen)

• dont stop...more, more, more! i literally LIVE for this story. (lisalovesbella)

• I am officially hooked. Wow. I have NEVER seen an Edward like this! Reading on... (AddiCakes)

If you are a regular reader of Southern Fan Fiction Review, you know that I am the reviewer who loves me some lemons. I like light fluffy stories that make me feel all gushy inside. Expectations and Other Moving Pieces is not light, it’s not fluffy, it hasn’t even had one little minor almost lemon. In this story Edward and Bella are in a Loveless marriage. They are in a hateful, cruel, miserable marriage and neither of them understands how to get out of it. They don’t even understand if they want out of it. All they do understand is, how they have dealt with one another hasn’t worked and isn’t working now. What are they going to do?

This story is written from Bella’s perspective. As I read EaOMP (this is the Twitter name for this story) I find myself wondering if Bella loves Edward. I think she does in her messed up way of thinking. I think she loves him the same way you love that old ratty blanket that you won’t throw away because it’s not too hot or too cold – or the way you love that pair of shoes that if you wear them in the rain your feet get wet because there is a hole in the bottom. She has used him until he is worn and tattered and his heart seems to be falling to pieces.

I also wonder if Edward still loves Bella. I think he really did in the beginning of their relationship, but not in a healthy way. I think he loved her in a way that made him give away who he was to her in a desperate attempt to make her love him. You can’t MAKE someone love you, and if you try, you end up hurting yourself and I think that is what has happened to Edward. I love him so much as a character that my heart actually breaks for him – and for her – their cruelty towards each other is devastatingly addictive. I don’t want to read them being mean to one another, but I hold the hope in my heart that everything will be alright.

Chrometurtle is an extremely talented author. She has the gift to grab hold of your soul and make you pull for her characters. Her writing is addictive and the chapters are just short enough that you want to SCREAM at her to give you MORE! She is tantalizing and seductive in her ability to make you wonder and long for her next chapter. I have never wanted two people to make up so bad in my LIFE! I think that, if you are not reading Expectations and Other Moving Pieces, you should try it. Offering it to you makes me feel like a crack dealer, because I know once you try it you won’t be able to stop.

She also wrote an outtake from Edwards Perspective - and it says complete, but I think she will write more.  His POV is extremely interresting.  He is a very complex thinker!

  1. Ahhh, this is a lovely story that deserved to be reviewed! It is so different than everything else and it just leaves you wondering what the heck happened between the two of them! I love this story and always read the instant I an update!!

  2. That is a great description of the story! I'm really enjoying it, I think it is one of the most uniquely written stories I've read. There is an air of mystery to it that I love!

  3. I'm so glad you reviewed this, especially because I share so many of thesame reactions to the story. It's painful and upsetting, and I just want them to kiss and make-up, except that can't happen since the relationship was never right in the first place. But there is an undeiable pull between the characters, ad the author is masterful in the way she is showing us the devastation their relationship has caused, while she provokes us into hoping for some kind of meaningful reconciliation between Bella and Edward.

  4. I LIVE for the days when this story updates. I am so freaking happy you reviewed it! The author is amazing--such unique characterizations, an original plot. This is a story we haven't seen (or at least I haven't) in Twilight fan fic. It is bold & refreshing & utterly addictive. Like crack for my brain! It's so good, I re-read old chapters in between updates just so I can get my fix. :)

  5. Agree with the entire blog post. This story is so understated in it's writing & what happens but with so little words, so little said chrometurtle makes you feel so damn much!

This is definitely a story that owns my soul :)

  6. I'm so glad you reviewed this story...I too am reading it and I couldn't have put into words like you did, what this story is actually about. It keeps me guessing with every chapter. Guessing to a point that I have almost given up on it...twice.

I enjoy a certain amount of angst in any ff, but this story to me, feels like it is moving at a snails pace. We are at 25 chapters and I still have no clue where she plans to go with this. I feel as though nothing has happened. Yet, with each update I read in the hopes of finding 'something' out.

She has me hooked, that's obvious. BUT, I wonder if this will turn into an 'epic' ff with chapters that give you a tiny morsel as they just keep accumulating. (i.e.~EP is at chapter 68 and Bella is just now being kidnapped...) I wonder how long these fics can continue without readers becoming so irritated as they beg for more but desperately want to know if we will have a HEA.

I guess that might be the makings of a great writer? Because they certainly succeed in keeping us begging for more, either way.

I do LOVE how quickly she normally updates. Its refreshing to be reading something that, whether I come away from the chappy knowing anything, at least I know I'll try to know more in a day or two. ;)

  7. Hey Sandy,

Great review choice. EaOMP is just fantastic and def. worth the review. I wanted to review it for LUSTorium. but, it was for Tempting Tuesday, which is a Lemon day. And seeing as how EOMP is lemon void thus far(though it would be rather interesting if they ever did...though it would irrevocably change the dynamics), I rec'd one of my all time faves IBYLT. If you haven't read it, you should def. check it out. I'm sure you'll love it and that you're fan base would too.

  8. Thank you for a great rec, Sandy!

I keep hearing the buzz about this story on Twitter and will definitely give it a try. Lack of lemons is not an issue for me, as long as the writing & the plot are good.

  11. you put into words everything i have been feeling while reading this story except for maybe one. as of now, i can't really think or believe that bella even loves edward here. my heart is totally breaking for edward. but it seems bella is starting to see edward here in a new light so maybe there's hope. i really love this because i love me some angts. :)

  12. Hey Sandy! Another wonderful review. I find it interesting that you are rooting for them. I am actually torn because I feel soooo much for the both of them that I'm not sure what I'm rooting for...I guess just some sort of happiness at the end whether that means totally parting ways, becoming friends, a slow dating progression to build a real healthy relationship, or jumping back into marriage and working the kinks out as they go. I'd really be happy with any of the above and thats really strange for me to admit. She's made me care about these characters so much individually that their status as a couple has to be pushed to the wayside on my priority list.

As always thanks for taking the time to write the review and sharing your thoughts on the story!

  14. I am honored that you used my comment on this blog. I couldn't stop reading this story if I tried..lol, I can't even say if I want them to be together or not, which isn't easy for ANY Bella/Edward lover to freely admit :)

Thank you for making a place where I don't feel "crazy" for being so obsessed with a story I feel the need to talk to people about it :D

as always, impatiently waiting for updates
