Swirl and Daisy by M81170

This Review was Written by the Lovely and Fun Lovin' 107yearoldvirgin

 August 08, 1993

Dear Diary,

Tonight was JW’s last night at Youth. He’s leaving for college in the morning. He pulled me to the side of the parking lot and gave me a rose and a card. It was really sweet! But then he tried to kiss me and I freaked out, so I made him kiss my cheek instead.

I should have let him kiss me.

I just don’t want my first kiss to be from a boy who is leaving. I like him soooooooo much though! I wonder if he’ll wait for me?

Ah, the diary of a thirteen year old girl. I thought I would marry JW one day. But, I was thirteen and he was nineteen…so, yeah. That didn’t happen. I didn’t know that way back then, though. In my head, he was IT. I would race to the mailbox after school to look for his letters, and he wrote three times a week.

And then two.

And then…none.

Three months later he brought home his girlfriend. I was devastated. I cried, I curled up in a ball and begged God to kill me. I scared the shit out of my mother and made my dad wish he’d had a boy as a first born.

Funny enough, I found JW on FaceBook last year. Looks like he’s got a good life with the girlfriend who is now his wife…and even though I had to wait another four years for my first kiss, it was worth it. My husband is a thousand times hotter.

Why am I telling you this? Because reading An Introduction to Swirl and Daisy brings out that fragile and silly thirteen year old girl that I used to be. How does the author M81170 describe the fic?  A first kiss, a first dance, a first curse word shared between best friends. This is the tale of a boring young geek and the social pariah who thought the world of him. A tale of growing up. A tale of a Non-Romantic Romance.

That’s right, peeps! A rated ‘T’ non-romantic romance.

My ladies on FaceBook went all fluttery over this one, and one weekend I found myself with an hour of quiet, my chapter done and my house clean. JS had recommended that I give Swirl and Daisy a shot, saying that it was lighthearted and sweet. Since the other fics I had been reading were sending me straight to Emo Town with a pink Lady Bic in my pocket, I decided to give S&D a shot.

Thank God I did! Seriously, I think I had a smile on my face from the very first paragraph. The feeling of being thirteen and the new girl at school came rushing back to me so quickly that I had to remind myself after a few minutes that I am an adult, and I’m not in Middle School anymore.

Bella is new in Forks and starts her Yearbook class looking for an open seat. Being intimidated by the popular girls, she sits next to a quiet boy with crazy hair and beautiful green eyes. Guess who? Emmett. Just kidding. It’s Edward, of course.

Their interactions are so innocent and sweet, it makes my heart all fluttery. So far, Swirl and Daisy has watched these characters’ relationship progress through Middle School and into High School. I love how M81170 can make you really see things through Bella’s eyes. She can see the fakeness of the other kids around them. She can see what a good person Edward is beneath his shy demeanor.

Edward is a young entrepreneur, and it’s so easy to picture him as a little business minded thirteen year old with the insecurities of being face to face daily with his first love. And Bella is a non-stop brain wave of chatter…as all thirteen year old girls are. Her diary notes are spot on, and the embarrassment or pain…or love and butterflies…that she feels are perfectly illustrated throughout the chapters.

The truth of the matter is that whenever someone asks me for a rec of a fic that isn’t angsty or sad…if they ask for sweet and light…I ALWAYS say Swirl and Daisy. I love these two and their pure infatuation with one another. I love their lives that revolve around making t-shirts and watching Lord of the Rings. I love how devoted they are to one another.

I asked a few of the girls on my page to give their thoughts on S&D and below are some of their words of praise:

JS

S&D reminds me what it was like to be 13 and earnest and all grown up and still a child at the same time. she really captured it, right? i remembered writing in my diary while reading this and it seems just the same trufax

DG

I love Swirl and Daisy! I forgot how chatter-y my brain was at that age when I liked a boy.

ESD

I love the innocence of it. And I love Jasper's reaction to Alice, seriously. Could that have been any better?

KLM

I too love the innocence. It is great to see Edward and Bella develop a relationship based on friendship and not physicality. It is true to canon with the chivalry that is written in.

AB

awww...i love it! the LOTR stuff cracks me up and when he gets all upset about HP? totally hilar. I need an update.

MMM

I really like how the chapters are named "the time....lalalala" It's so cute.

JR

I can tell you what I love about it in one word: Edward...

So, there you have it. A wonderful story about teenage love that isn’t about sex or violence. It’s about pure, innocent love from a time that we may have all forgotten. If you want a refreshing trip down Memory lane, and to feel giddy with nostalgia…check out Swirl and Daisy.

Relative Wind by Mac214

This review is written by lemon lovin' ssherrill115

Relative Wind by Mac214

Let's see how Mac214 describes her fic:  The romance begins at 15,000 feet above the earth, but what happens when forces other than gravity conspire to keep them apart? AU-AH. OOC. Rated for lemons and language. Commissioned by Athena for the Fandom Gives Back auction.  Twilight - Rated: M - English - Romance/Humor - Chapters: 17 - Words: 79,250 - Reviews: 1198 - Updated: 3-24-10 - Published: 12-5-09 - Bella & Edward

As many of you know, my days of sky diving are past me.  #1 you would never get me in a plane and #2 if you did get my old ass in a plane, you wouldn't be able to push me out of it.  But a girl can dream can't I???  There is nothing hotter to me than Mac214's description of Bella's first tandem jump.  Thinking of being strapped to Edward, feeling his hard...um...body pressed to hers.  He allows her to steer the parachute leaving his hands free to...um...explore as they slowly float to earth, the wind in their hair, the beautiful sunset...**sigh**  But I digress, first I need to give you a little background.

Bella is a Twenty something living with her best friend Mike (I know Mike eeewwwa! but he plays a good guy in this one).  They do everything together, but they don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.  Mike finally graduates and he is moving to California to go to Grad School.  Bella is so sad - AND Bella needs a new room mate.  But before she starts searching, Mike and Bella will have one more adventure together.  They are going to sky dive.  That's where she meets - guess who?  Edward is a Forty something widower who sky dives for fun and he works part time at the drop zone where Mike and Bella go to have their adventure.  Bella and Edward hit it off to say the least.

Now, that room mate...Wonder who will answer Bella's add for a room mate??  I bet you will NEVER guess who...go ahead...try....NOPE you're wrong, but you're close.  You will just have to read Relative Wind and find out what happens.  Mac214 is an accomplished author.  I Love her writing style.  Her story is compelling with a hint of mystry.  She keeps you guessing what will happen next.  I Love the 20 / 40 split here.  The idea of older Edward is just so Hot to me - you think it's be cause I'm older???  Well, she doesn't write him OLD - she writes him HOT and I have a feeling that even some of my twenty something readers will be ready to give older Edward a try.  You will get a taste of all your friends in this one Emmett, Rosalie, Alice and Jasper have all made an appearance.  Ooooohhh Even better who Edward's DEAD wife is.  I don't like her in any of the stories I read her in.  I think she plays a corpse best of all.

Mac214 has written many stories for Twilight.  I suggest that you give her a try, I think you will enjoy her as much as I do.

Interview by Hunterhunting and Antiaol

Did you read Clipped Wings & Inked Armor?  How about Library Rendevouz?  How about are you reading The Missapprehension of Bella Swan?  Well, if any of these things are true, you are familiar with Hunterhunting AND Antiaol.  These two Ladies are a Hoot!  I have read all their stories and I follow them on Twitter and I read the threads and the blogs.  What I'm sayin' is I LOVE THESE GUYS!

A Couple of weeks ago I did a Twitter Poll and I asked "If you could ask your favorite author any question what would it be?"  Now the Twitches that answered didn't know who I was going to ask.  Then I Twitter Polled again and I asked "If you could ask Hunterhunting or Antiaol any question what would it be?"  The following are the questions that came directly from the wonderful world of Twitter:

*Going forward Hunterhunting is Gin (her real name like Gin and Tonic which is so fucking cool), and Antiaol is Bri.  Gin is in Purple and Bri is in Red!
@ScarletBlondepr Do they picture rob as edward when they write smut? How do they feel about toys?

Gin: Yeah, Rob is the dude I picture, at least his face is the one I see, but I know for a fact that Bri doesn't.

Bri: She knows me so well. No, I don't picture Rob. Ever. I don't picture any one actor or model, but I've selected the closest I can find for each of the stories I've written. But the Edward in my head is always the same, sometimes younger, older, more badassy or whatever, but generally the same. And he's a fuckton hotter than Rob. ;)
Gin: You are a blasphemous h00r. but I still love you.

@AndyMCope How do they feel about the use of sex toys? Does their smut writing come from real life or imagination?

Gin: Sex toys are a big huge thumbs up for me. HUGE. I love them. I recently went to a sex show and bought myself a glass dildo and I love it, it's my new favourite. The smut comes from my imagination for the most part, but that doesn't mean some of the experiences aren't mine.

Bri: Yeah, I'm all about the toys, but I don't use them on the regular. I prefer my hubs fuckawesome tongue, if ya know what I'm sayin'. As for smut writing, yeah, I mean sure some of it has come from real life, but for the most part, it's just my imagination.

@WannabeBritish What's the best toy the own? Where's the most random place they've had sex?

Gin: I have an aswesome glass dildo that I am totally in love with. It's my favourite thing ever. Um, most random place I've had sex. A rock quarry.

Bri: This http://bit.ly/c5NZOt is my favorite toy. You see all those little nubs? UNF. As for the sex, I don't really do random places. I live vicariously through my perverted characters.

Gin: I'm really surpised that you didn't comment on the rock quarry, I would have thought that garnered a huh but clearly I am enough of a perv that it isn't all that surprising.

Bri: You know what, I really wasn't at all surprised. hahaha

@cereuleanblue How do you find inspiration when the ideas just won't flow? Do you prefer to type or handwrite or a combination of the two?

Gin: Music and porn are my muses. I type pretty much everything unless I have no computer access, then I'll write in point form or jot notes for ideas and such. Writing by hand is so cumbersome and takes way more time, plus you have to type it up anyway so what's the point?

Bri: Yes, exactly what Gin said. It's rare that I write it down, but if I do, it's in my Hello Kitty notebook (thanks KM), because I like to be devious like that. As for inspiration...if the ideas aren't there, no amount of porn, dirty pictures or music is going to make it so for me.

Gin: Truefax on above, I can't force ideas to cum. They just arrive.

@mycompass7 do their signifcant others(if app) support them with this?! or help them with idears?!

Gin: Hubs supports my writing, he's not much of a reader, but he's happy that my stories are being read and the feedback is generally positive.

Bri: Yes, he's very supportive and reads everything I write. He hasn't read any others, but if I forwarded something to him, he would. And, uh, yeah, he's been very enthusiastic about some *ahem* research I've needed to do.

Gin: Yeah, I think you need to keep on with the research there girl. Starts with a b and ends with secks.

Bri: BAHAHAHAA - roger that. I'm lagging behind. And for those that know anything about the Manal Decks outtake for LR that hasn't been, they're well aware how much of a slacker I've been.

@ScarletBlondepr their feeling on buttsecks and slash.

Gin: I feel good about both. I don't read a lot of slash yet, but I don't actually have much time to read anything, so that sort explains why that is.

Bri: I've never experienced either, but enjoy the idea of both. ;)

@LisaCA707 what type of feedback they appreciate the most in reviews

Gin: I really like it when people comment on characterization, or how the story evokes feeling or sensation. That type of feedback is extraordinary, and I love it.

Bri: M'hmm, defs what Gin said. I love when anyone reviews - it's fabulous even if it's just "great chapter," but the ones I smile most about are the ones that are well thought out and constructive. I love hearing what people love about the story, but I also love when they say "I don't know wtf you're doing here...but I'mma trust you anyway."

Gin: Yes, exactly. I think in CW&IA there were so many plot twists and so much angst people freaked out about what was happening in the story. With MoBS people are pissed about all the cliffies, which I totally understand because I'm as relentless as Hockeyward's dick about them, but there's this level of trust I have with the reader that I didn't before. It's nice when people say, "okay I know that things are going to be okay so I'll deal with your shit right now, but please let the beaver have some wood soon."

Bri: The beaver jokes will never get old.

@CanuckGirl_ when she starts writing, is the whole story in her head already, or does it evolve while writing?

Gin: For CW&IA I had a vague outline with definite points I wanted to cover, but it wasn't developed chapter by chapter, for MoBS I've outlined the whole thing because it's so much easier to write when you have a clear vision. CW was clear in my head, but without a blueprint it spiraled more than I would have liked, and became monsterous to write.

Bri: I think you have to let it evolve somewhat to stay true to the characters. With LR, I didn't really have an outline until I was about half way done, and even then it was very simplistic. With SBC&B, I have an extremely detailed outline and it is so nice to write from it. But at the same time, I need to realize when I have to let the characters lead the way and sort of put my preconceived notions on the back burner and just go with the flow.

@cereuleanblue What kind of lemons do you prefer, graphic or ones that leave more to the imagination?

Gin: Definitely ones that leave more to the imagination *snort* no really, clearly I'm visual, I like to be able to see it all taking place as I read.

Bri: I actually prefer ones that aren't so over the top graphic. I mean, I enjoy those, too, don't get me wrong. But I do like when not every moan or grunt is spelled out. And, quite frankly, I'm jaded. I don't want to read: "OGinGinGinGinGin MAAAAAH GAWDDDDDDD, EDDDDDDDWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M CUMMMMMMMMMMMING!!!!!!!!" I mean, honestly. Leaving a little to the imagination is sometimes a good thing.

Gin: Bwahahaha, ILY. I think she's been over exposed to my lemons. That's why I've been writing other, much less graphic ones for some stories, because they can't all be porno scripts.

Bri: Oh please...like I'd let you post something heinous like that. *scoffs*

Gin: Right-oh, because my lemons aren't graphic at all, not one tiny little bit. Or is this just the dialogue you're talking about. I went back and reread one of my lemons recently, just to you know, get some *coughcough* perspective on them and JEBUS, I am really a huge pervert. I can't even imagine what it would be like if say, my parents found out about the stuff I write.

Bri: Sister, I hear that. As for the graphic...ness, that doesn't bother me. It's when things are poorly written and over the top that I roll my eyes and vom up my lunch. You, my dear, have never caused such a reaction.

Gin: I'mma hump your leg right now if that's okay with you.

Bri: I would enjoy that very much.

@ScarletBlondepr I'd ask my her writing process, listen to music, tv, do u write based on a fantasy that needs to be fulfilled.....

Gin: I need music to write, it always helps with the mood of the piece. I definitely don't think that CW&IA would appear in any of my fantasies, maybe the sex, but otherwise no thanks--not really interested in being addicted to script meds and being a completely OCD fucker. As for MoBS, this one is more fun, but I don't think I would want to date a Hockey h00r and wind up on the covers of newspapers, it's just not my idea of a good time.

Bri: I guess I don't really have a process. I generally have my earbuds in, but not always. When I wrote LR, I NEVER listened to music, but I find it does help, if nothing else to block out all the outside stimuli. As far as writing based on a fantasy...um, not really. The smut in some, sure, but the storylines? Nope.

@cereuleanblue What piercings or tattoos do you have?

Gin: I have four tattoos: my astrological number and planents, a frog for happiness, a wolf for endurance and a dolphin for guidance. I have my ears pierced but I'm pretty much allergic to all metals so I rarely wear earrings. I used to have a tongue ring and a clit ring back in the day. I would do the clit ring again. In a heart beat.

Bri: I'm pretty boring...only one tattoo and just my ears pierced. Used to have my belly button done...back before my kids stretched the shit outta my stomach. And I've thought about the clit ring, but I'm waiting to see if I outgrow that want. If not, when Gin and I meet up again, perhaps we'll get matching clit piercings. *snort*

Gin: That's such a fantastic idea, and it's so romantic. We could even get matching barbells.

Bri: I obviously love the shit right outta this idea.

Gin: I'm so all over this idea. I totally want to do it. Get my clit repierced that is.

Bri: Spring is commmmmmmmmmmming.

@cereuleanblue What was your inspiration for CW&IA? How much did you write/outline before posting?

Gin: I outlined after I posted the first chapter. I had the first two chapters written, and by the time I posted chapter 2 I was nearly done chapter 4. I was never, ever ahead of the game, which is not the best plan. It's always good to be able to revise as you post and that was impossible with CW&IA. It sort of spiraled out on me and I think there is a lot of it that could be cut out, but it's all a learning process. It's the first complete novel I have ever written.

@ScarletBlondepr is she sick of cupcakes already? I'm just kidding (but that would be funny)

Gin: I hardly ever eat cupcakes. I love them, but I don't eat them. And I don't like choclate ones at all.

Bri: This is a true story. I've seen her pass up chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting (which were like soft, moist, delicious heaven) in favor of plain, boring vanilla.

Gin: I feel the need to defend myself here, I would rather eat a vanilla cupcake, but I'm not likely to enjoy vanilla in bed all that much.

Bri: I don't think anyone thought you enjoyed vanilla in bed, what with your lemons and whatnot.

Gin: Sigh. ILY. I need to buy a sex swing, or maybe a stripper pole. Do you think anyone would notice that in my bedroom?

Bri: Well, if they're in your bedroom, perhaps they would be inclined to use them with you? *wiggles eyebrows*

@jael728 what was her inspiration and how did she come up with the concept? How much researching did she do?

Gin: There was this accident on the news once, where this couple in India got married, it was a huge wedding with about six hundred people attending. The temple collapsed during the ceremony and everyone died. It was horrific, and I couldn't get my head around the horror of it. There was another incident where the bride and groom were on the way to the church for their wedding. The bride and bridesmaids were in one car and the groom and groomsmen were in another. A tractor trailer jackknifed and the bride and the bridesmaids were killed on impact. How horrendous would that be? Anyway, I pulled the idea of Bella's loss from those tragic events and then worked in Edward's own horrifying past, added a shit load of tatts and piercing because, well, I just find them incredibly sexy and really quite beautiful.

Research? I did a lot, particularly on tatts and aftercare, as well as piercings, I have some of both but there are so many different practices, I felt like it was essential to the story for me to get the feel for it. Not everyone will agree with the methods used or my portrayal of the characters, but this was my vision and I went with it. I also did a lot of research on anxiety disorders, medication and OCD. I tend to work with a lot of people with varying degrees of this issues, so the firsthand knowledge is helpful.

When the Twitches ran out of questions, I turned to the one person I know I can ALWAYS count on to help me out.  The following questions are from our wonderful angst lovin' snshyne:

I'd probably ask Gin more about her tatt/piercing experience or obsession or if she's as anal as tattward

Gin: I'm getting another tatt soon I think. One to cover up some of the one's on my back I'm not all that fond of and a representation of my daughter.  I'm not as anal as Tattward thank God for that. But I'm a little OCD--example, I have to start chewing food on my right side and finish on my left, I know this is really, really strange and because I have sensitive teeth when I eat cold things I can only chew on my left. It makes me feel unbalanced. I'm also a lot spastic about being tidy. I hate it when everything is out of order, it makes it difficult for me to concentrate. Having a kid has serious impacted that and I tend to let things slide, but when I can, I clean valiantly.

Bri: You said anal.

Oh antiaol her inspiration for Library Rendezvous?

Bri: I honestly don't know. I'd been wanting to write for a while, but I didn't have any ideas. And then the Valentine's Day contest came about and all of the sudden it just hit me like lightening. I wrote the original o/s in an afternoon.

Ask her why she chooses different people as the representation for her Edward, Bella, etc?

Bri: Because I read the books (all but BD) before the movie had been cast. And I was sorely disappointed with the actor choices. I guess everyone was just a whole lot prettier in my head...

Gin: RPattz is sexy as fuck, although I am definitely a fan of the fuckhotness that you post at the meat locker, and I can understand your need for someone with a little more beef. *coughhockeywardcough*

Bri: *nod nod* I like 'em built.

Why/how they got into twific

Bri: I was waiting for The Book That Shall Not Be Named to come out and I needed more Edward. So, I started looking online for whatever I could get my hands on. Seriously - I was obsessed. I imagine I looked like something close to a cracked out junkie looking for their next fix. I went through SM's website, reading all the shit she had there, and I think I got linked to Twilight Moms and from there to FFn. And then my whole world kersploded and so did my vag.

What kinds of environments they write in?

Bri: I generally write in my living room, lounging on my chaise, with my laptop propped up on a pillow on my legs. Ear buds in, no TV on, kids in bed. Or, I rock it out at Panera.

To Gin @chartwilightmom if you could give Rob a tatt or piercing what would it be (where) and do you think he would be a pussy about it? She would also like to know about your Education your background – she says you write with wonderful words. This is a really big fan of yours...

Gin: Hands down it would be in his dick. Fuck yeah. **nods to self** Tattoo? I like sleeves a lot, like a whole lot so I'd say a half sleeve but I think he would be a wuss about it, so maybe a little one on his hip sort of pointing to his dick.

Bri: I might be able to get on the Rob bandwagon if you got his wang pierced... I'm not so sure about the fruity tatt, tho...

Gin: How about a tatt on his arm then? I'mma fan of those, something cool there or maybe a back piece. I love back pieces a lot.

Bri: I LOVE back tatts. I'd be all over those. And bicep tatts. And chest tatts. Unf.

Gin: My education? I have an honours BA in English with a minor in drama.<--This this make me sound like a pretenious fuckwad? My diploma has been sitting in a filing cabinet somewhere for the better part of a decade, I've had no urge to frame it or anything, so I hope that helps redeem me a bit. I'm a huge fucking nerd and I love to play Scrabble. My job allows me to work with a lot of learning disabled individuals and also those from less that privileged backgrounds. I see a lot of trauma on a regular basis, so the angst wasn't really all that difficult to write.

To Both of you – These questions are from me (Sandy) Just some stuff I think some of our readers would like to know...

Are you married or single gay or straight children or no?

Bri: I'm married to someone my friends refer to as my very own Edward (he does have the tall, lanky build going on and sex hair down, that's for sure). And I have two boys. Yes, I'm greatly outnumbered.

Gin: I'm also married to a dude and I have a daughter who is quickly approaching two years of age.

Do you have pets and what kinds?

Bri: Nope, no pets.

Gin: I have two white cats that shed all over the fucking place. It drives me insane, but they are cute as hell, so what are you going to do? One of them is polydactly, she has two extra toes on each paw which makes her more than a little awkward.

What part of the world do you live in – are you native to that environment or how long have you lived there. Do you like it – if you could live anywhere – where would it be.

Bri: I currently reside in the 'burbs of Chicago. Nope, not from here, but a transplant. And, nope, we don't particularly like it. If the damn economy would get its ass in gear, we'd like to move to a smaller (yet not too small) city. Living anywhere? I dunno...I'm up for giving anything a go.

Gin: I live in Ontario, Canada--that big state in the north. I've always lived in Ontario, but it's fucking huge so moving around is pretty common. I used to live really close to the US Border, but now I live closer to the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). It's a busy place and honestly, if I could live in a slower part of the province I would.

Do you work outside of Fan Fiction? What kind of work (not specific) teacher, office worker, janitor

Bri: Yes, I do. But if I told you what I did, the CIA would have my ass.

Gin: Ditto on the above. I'm like a secret-agent ninja. Not at all really, but you know, I think that kind of job would be cool.

Bri: Plus, you get really hot outfits.

Gin: oooh, I never thought of that. I would love a hot ninja outfit.

If you were giving a gift to someone very special to you and you had to choose a book to give as a gift what would that book be?

Bri: I'mma assume that the person in need of a book is a sheltered and non-sexed up Mom. So, I'll say Twilight. *snicker*

Gin: I'mma say porn, maybe with visuals and an accompanying story, unless that important person was my grandmother. Then I'd give her a copy of Reader's Digest or something.

Same question and you had to pick a movie (dvd)?

Bri: It depends on who it was for, and what their personality was like... I mean, I don't want to give an incredibly morose person like...I dunno...The Green Mile or something, kwim? Plus, I have so many favorites, it would be supah hard to choose. But, I'm mostly an ass-kickin' or a laugh-my-ass-off movie kinda girl, so probs something in one of those genres.

Gin: My favourite movies are Legend or Labyrith, so I'd give those to someone, but again it all depends on personality. I would never give my husband a horror movie, but I would totally give him one where there are boobs flashing on the screen because he loves boobs and hates horror. BOOBS. Sorry, I'm so juvenile sometimes.

Same question and you had to pick a cd?

Bri: Tori Amos, Little Earthquakes

Gin: The Cure, Disintegration

If you could actually be any character in the Twilight Saga – who would it be and why?

Gin: Edward, because his mind is a fucked up place to be, plus he gets to listen to people sexin' it up ALL THE TIME. The perv in me would totally take advantage of that.

Bri: I'd say Edward, too. Mostly because I'd really like to get in his head and see what it's all about. And cause I'd like to know what it feels like to jerk off.

Do you write professionally? Would you like to? What types of books would you write if you could?

Bri: Nope, I don't. Would I like to? Sure, I mean, I think most people who write FF have some sort of a desire to write in the long run. Now if only I could come up with a plot that didn't have a certain bronze haired hottie...

Gin: No I don't write professionally, would I like to? Uh, sure. That would be cool if I could do the one thing I really enjoy and make money doing it. What would I write? I don't know. I mean, clearly I enjoy writing erotica--very, very graphic erotica, but I actually started writing CW&IA because I needed a break from an originial fic I was writing that fits into the teen fic genre. Talk about cockblocking the fuck out of oneself. I needed an outlet, CW&IA became that outlet mostly because I wanted to see if I could write porn. Apparently I really enjoy it, a lot.

We Don't Break, We Bend by lyricalkris

Original Author's Description: Even in the darkest times, you might find the kind of love that saves you. Rated M for dark themes.

This fic comes rec'd to me many, many moons ago by the deliciously delightful lambcullen. So, go thank her when you get a moment. I've been reading We Don't Break, We Bend almost from when it started posting. I've been waiting to review it because of the nature of the dark themes, I wanted to be able to give a thorough opinion to you faithful readers of SFFR.

In school, there is always the one kid who wears long sleeves and heavy jeans all the time. Even in the sweltering heat of Summer. The one kid who might unexpectedly go absent for a few days and never invites kids over to play. All so no one will have to know what they suffer through at home. In this fic, there are three: Jasper, Bella and Edward. And all they have is each other.

There's the reality of life that people get into foster care just for the money and not for the kids. And the bully who picks on those who seem weaker than him. James Whitlock is just that kind of guy. A shady and malevolent character wrapped in a towering inferno with a heavy hand, he emotionally battered his already damaged high school girlfriend and then left her once his son Jasper came into the world and took his place on the ladder of importance. Jasper's mother later dies in a car accident leaving him to go and live with his less than reputable father.

Jasper is with James for a couple of years bent to the point of almost breaking when James becomes the foster parent for Edward and Bella. Edward and Bella are already familiar with each other and had already developed a relationship from spending time in the system together, but I'm not telling you how they got there. And although they didn't openly trust Jasper at first, the three of them came to bond over their similar experiences and shared situation. They cling to one another because they only trust each other. James becomes more violent and soon other issues like drug use and attempts at sexual assault come into play. The kids are not in a safe environment at all. However, on the strength of each other, they keep a shred of their sanity in tact.

Enter the Cullens, a sense of normalcy in their chaotic world. Befriended by Alice, the trio spend time at the Cullens house and find that they are adored and cherished, which is hard to process. A small shred of faith in humanity starts to bud within the three mistreated children as they start to look forward to the time they spend in the beautiful big house with the happy family, video games and meals they don't have to fend for themselves. Life isn't all peachy though as they still have to go back to James' house when the more relaxed times are over and fight for their lives.

There's light at the end of the tunnel because we all know how caring, compassionate, and insightful Carlisle and Esme are. LyricalKris does a nice job bringing their subtle natures to the forefront at the height of the drama in the lives of Jasper, Edward and Bella. Being there just when the kids need them the most. Really, harsh issues aside, this story is about three kids who are "legs of a tripod- holding themselves up straight and tall - but if one of them broke then surely they would all fall." It would still be that story without the abuse, negligence, and fear. At the core, it's about friendship, love, trust and survival.

Sadly, with just over 200 reviews, this story is a little known Treasure. Tragic really because LyricalKris does a good job keeping the balance of the dark themes realistic while not being overly done for shock value. We Don't Break, We Bend is nearly complete so if you start now, you won't have to wait long to get to the other side of the mountain so to speak.

Boys Wanna be Her by Dankgeorge
Just let me tell you how Dankgeorge describes this AMAZING fic: Whip It! Inspired fic; tired of her innocent girl-next door image, Bella joins a roller derby team. How will popular but oblivious Edward handle his shy lab partner turning into a badass? M for lemons and badasseryTwilight - Rated: M - English - Romance - Chapters: 21 - Words: 56,304 - Reviews: 523 - Updated: 3-18-10 - Published: 8-22-09 - Bella & Edward

OK - I know that I am a good bit older than you. I know I am more than likely old enough to be your Mama. When I was a kid we had 3 channels on the TV. I'm talking about before cable, before video games, before microwaves, VCRs, DVD players, before Robert Patterson was an itch in his Daddy's Britches. On Sunday (after church, which you had no choice about you went, unless you were dead) there was NOTHING to do. All the adults took a nap. You came home from church, changed out of your "Sunday Clothes", ate a huge Dinner, and then your parents went to take a nap while you got stuck with the dishes and nothing else to do. There was some kind of documentary on the reproductive glands of an amoeba on one channel, wrestling on another channel - but then, on that third channel, the one that sometimes didn't come in real good, was the Holy Grail of TV - ROLLER DERBY! Now, don't get me wrong, I love Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat and Black-Jack Mulligan as much as the next girl (these are wrestlers by the way). But when I was a kid, I wanted to be Ann Calvello, Jonie Weston or Margie Lazlo. Those ladies were tough, those ladies were mean, and those ladies didn't take no crap.

Dankgeorge has taken meek mild little Bella Swan. The Bella that can't speak up for herself, the Bella that is scared of her own shadow, the Bella that doesn't think she is good enough, and she has turned her into a Big Bad Ball-Breakin' Bettie! OK - I'm putting the Bettie before the story here. First you have to start out with the meek, mild, scared of her own shadow Bella who is smart. She has a huge crush on her Biology partner (bet you can't guess who that is), but Bella's Biology partner doesn't pull his weight. He comes to class and sleeps and lets Bella do all the work. Bella hands in the papers and they both get her good grades. This is startin' to Piss Bella off. So, one day she decides that enough is enough and she confronts this lab partner and she tells him to kiss her ass. (This is very UN-Bella like language) Then she has a talk with her friend Angela and she tells Angela that The Jerry Sailor's Betties are having try-outs in a month. Angela agrees to train Bella - do you think she can make the team?

Meanwhile, this little outburst of Bella's has awoken the sleeping Biology Partner and all of a sudden his lab partner didn't look like a lab partner at all. She looked like Bettie Page. And Bettie Page was hot! But now, this Bettie Page look alike lab partner was treating him like he was scum. She wouldn't even work WITH him on the assignments. What's a Hot Sleeping Biology Partner to do???

Dankgeorge has captured my attention and my adoration for being an AMAZING author. She has come up with a combination that is entertaining and intriguing. I absolutely love this story so much I can't tell you enough how much you will love it when you read it. Dankgeorge has taken the excitement and wonder of Roller Derby and combined it with the passion and romance of Twilight. This story will roll your world! (Get it, roll - roller derby...snort!)

Now, she tells me it's loosely based on "Whip it!" Which is a movie that is directed by Drew Barrymore who I Adore. But I haven't seen the movie so I can't tell you if it's as good or better - but I can tell you that the fan fic is Awesome! I will be paying to view "Whip it!" in the near future, as soon as I can finish watching all the documentary DVDs that came with my purchase of New Moon!

Hey - Give Dankgeorge a chance, I think you will love her as much as I do!!! Here is the link to her story: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5324437/1/Boys_Wanna_Be_Her

She is also a hoot on Twitter so here is her twitter page: http://twitter.com/dankegeorge
Here is Bettie Page's fan page in case you don't know who she is: http://www.bettiepage.com/

Ok - so, what did you think? Do you think you will read Boys Wanna Be Her? Do you think you will rent "Whip it!"? Let me know what you think by leaving me a comment, you know I am a comment whore - they make my day really!!! Thank you for reading Southern Fan Fiction Review!!

Library Rendevous by Antiaol

This review was written by the lovely and extremely funny 107yearoldvirgin

How does the amazing antiaol describe her fic, Library Rendezvous? Two strangers, three months of flirting, one night of passion leading to a forever. BxE, AU/AH **Rated M for LEMONS and potty mouth words**

And, you should know it comes with an author warning: **DO NOT CONSUME LIQUIDS WHILE READING ANY CHAPTER OF LIBRARY RENDEZVOUS. LAUGHTER MAY COMMENCE AT ANY MOMENT.**

I love this fic. Like, seriously LOVE it. I can count on one hand how many stories have kept me up at night reading until three a.m. when I have to get up at seven a.m. for work. Or four a.m. to feed the baby. Library Rendezvous is one of three in my fanfic history to do this to me.

For starters, antiaol (Bri) is just flat out funny. Hilarious, even. I completely ‘get’ her sense of humor and I want to roll around in it like a kid in a pre-sanitized ball pit at Discovery Zone.

This story is about Edward and Bella, obviously. They meet one night in the library and strike up a conversation, both immensely attracted to the other, and with a lot in common. The thing is, they’ve been playing a silent song and dance for months…until one of them gets the courage to approach the other. Telling you anything else about the plot will spoil you, so I’ll just let you know what I adore about LR.

First, Edward is so damn sweet. He’s a dream Edward with good intentions, seduction skills, and moves in the bedroom. Bella is smart. And she’s not a wuss at all. I love a strong Bella with a good head on her shoulders. And I also appreciate the fact that the secondary characters get face time and development…and they are likeable.

Oh, and did I mention that she may have written THE best first date I’ve ever read? Truly epic win.

Bri writes a sweet tale of love and humor that has earned her a Favorite Author slot in my book. And there are only 10 of those, BTW. In fact, I am pretty sure I have a platonic, same sex girl crush on her. I used this review to get her to answer a few of my interview questions below, under the guise that it would make you like her more and think she was even funnier than we already know she is:

• So, Library Rendezvous started off as a One Shot. What compelled you to make it a full length story?

Hmmm...well, mostly it was all the reviewers saying "OMG!!!!! PLEASE CONTINUE THIS OR I'LL DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE!!!!" OK...so that never happened, but I did have quite a few who requested it and *leans closer to Amber and drops voice to a whisper* I actually left it so I could continue it if I wanted cause I'm a h00r like that.

• It’s ridiculously funny and sweet, while still being steamy. How much of yourself did you put into these characters for it to come across as so charming to readers?

First, I'm so glad that it comes across that way. As far as personality, neither are really me, but a lot of their thoughts are my thoughts. I guess a lot of what I did was sort of an anti-character because at the time I'd read so many fics with characters I hated, I didn't want to do that. Take Alice, for instance. I hate that sprite, pixie, mini-devil, whatever you want to call her. In so, so many fics, she's bossy, controlling, condescending and a fucking brat. I wanted a Bella that could indulge her, while knowing when to tell her to back the fuck off, kwim? I mean, that's what real friendship is all about, right? Compromise.

As for Edward, well, he's pretty damn close to my perfect guy. Funny, sweet, horny, romantic, but still a guy's guy.

• I know you’re a Mom and you beta as well as contribute to blogs and read other fic. How the hell do you do it??

Fuck if I know, dude. In all honesty, I spend way more time than I should on the computer. And if I'm not on the computer, I'm on my iPhone. I did recently have to stop beta'ing for a few authors because that got to be too much. I was doing way more of that than writing and I didn't want that. So, right now I'm only beta'ing for two authors that update regularly and they both keep me very busy. I also still do it for a couple of others that update less often, so it's not too big of a commitment. But, I really should spend more time with those people that inhabit my house.

• Off topic: Your favorite movie is So I Married An Axe Murderer. It’s my favorite, too. Do you think that Fate is telling us that we’re soul mates and that we should dance like children of the night? Or…am I reading too much into it?

I'm pretty sure that's EXACTLY what it's telling us. Come!! Let us dance like children of the night. *runs off and frolics about*

*Amber’s note: If we are frolicking, I am not wearing that damn Pollyanna dress of Bella’s from New Moon. Just sayin’.

• Did Tattward ever try to grab your ass in your cupcake cheekies?

Well, he told me not to tell anyone cause Bella would get "super fucking pissed," but hell yeah he did. And he said it was a sweet ass, too. Not that I'm bragging or anything...

• Will you name my boobs?

You bet your sweet ass I will. Here's what I need: A detailed picture of them (i.e. a close-up of your nipples) and then a wider shot of just the jublees. Alright, I'm kidding...but I have had people send me pics. I DO need to know about them before I can name them properly, though. These awesome names don't create themselves, you know.

• Back on topic: Are you excited to have completed LR and be on to your new story? 'Cuz, I sure as hell am excited for it!

I am more excited than I can say. But, I do miss OnlyYouWard and VixenBella. They were my first and I really do love their personalities and relationship so, so much. But, Somewhere Between Crimson and Blue is completely different - both in characters and plot - so I'm excited to see if I can pull off something so different for me.

See? Told you she was funny. Dammit, now you have a girl crush on her too, don’t you?

If you haven’t read the sweet, sexy treat that is Rendezvous, then you should be made to re-file the Dewey Decimal cards in your local annals. **snort** My Lappy said ‘annals’ was a synonym for ‘library’.

Get over there and leave Bri some love for her fantastic work. And while you’re at it, check out her new story. I’m sure I’ll be reviewing it here sooner rather than later.

Devils Pitchfork by 1Blue25

INTRODUCING - The newest member of the Southern Fan Fiction Review Family - Julieblys!  Julieblys will be our "Mystery Lover".  She is the author of one of the stories reviewd here on SFFR - "Anywhere But Here".  Let's give a Big SFFR Welcome to Julieblys!!!  The following review comes to us from Julieblys, don't forget to leave her some love in the form of a comment at the end of the review!

Devil's Pitchfork By 1Blue25

Have you ever gone a fic hunt and clicked on the name of a story just because its name intrigued you? Devil’s Pitchfork is one of those stories for me. Little did I know when I clicked that link, the unique name of the fic was just the beginning of the many things that would inevitably captivate me about this story.

Devil’s Pitchfork as described by the author 1Blue25: Bella had always been warned to stay away from Forks. So when she finds herself stranded there, she expects a very unfriendly welcome. Instead, she finds an opportunity to become the person she’s always wanted to be. BxE, AU-AH Twilight - Rated: M - English - Romance/Suspense - Chapters: 23 - Words: 117,403 - Reviews: 1556 - Updated: 2-27-10 - Published: 7-15-09 - Bella & Edward

I didn’t know it was possible for an author to jump so quickly into the thick of a storyline, yet still be able to keep the reader enamored by slowly unveiling the mysterious details surrounding the circumstances that brought the two main characters to the starting point. If you're looking for a slow burn this is not the story for you. From the first chapter, the author captures you with her unique tale of a town named Forks, the families the reside within its borders, and a young girl who found herself walking down a road with no hope of every turning back.

Bella Swayne is a 23 year old girl who has been sheltered and coddled by her parents her entire life. But I assure you this is no ordinary case of Daddy’s little girl. It’s obvious from the get go that her parents overcautious hovering was not done out of love and affection for their one and only baby girl, but rather because they felt the need to protect her. The question is from what or better yet, whom?

The story begins with Bella walking the streets of Forks on a rainy night in search of help for her truck that had broken down 3 miles outside of town. Her father had warned her to steer clear of the town he affectionately referred to as the Devil’s Pitchfork, but her cell phone was dead, and for the first time in her life she goes against her parents wishes. She quickly learns that her father had warned her off for a reason. Before she has a chance to reach a payphone she finds herself accosted from behind…not because her attacker wants to mug her, but because she dared step foot in his town.

Insert Edward, a man who’s wise beyond his years having grown up in a town that has been continuously at war with its neighbors, the Quills. He wields a gun - not as a precaution but out of necessity. He is no stranger to death, and lives each day fighting to preserve the lives of his family - his town. So when an Outsider is found wandering the streets, he’s immediately suspicious of her presence and treats her as a prisoner. However when he discovers a mark on her body, a mark she didn’t realize she had, the mark of the town that he and every other resident shares, he realizes she isn’t so much a stranger after all.

Funny as it may sound, I find myself just as intrigued about the dynamics of the town as I was by these two main characters. 1Blue25 had managed to transform a simple town into an entire entity of its own. Each person in the community has a duty to the town organization that is essential in order to maintain their way of life - a way of life that the Quills threaten on a daily basis. Walls have been built and boarder patrol put in place, yet still the Quills find ways to infiltrate their town, threaten their lives, and disrupt their peaceful way of life.

The question is why. Why do the Quills hate the residents of the Forks? Why do the people of Forks continue to stay and fight? And why would anyone willingly become a new resident of a place so fittingly named the Devil’s Pitchfork?

If your one of those people that loves a quality mystery but is still a bit faint at heart, fear not. While the author isn’t afraid to get your adrenaline pumping, her descriptions are far from gruesome. There may be death, but I assure you this is no horror blood show.

The other element of this story I have yet to mention is the romance. These characters have some good old fashioned instant attraction working for them. And what better circumstances for our two, could be, lovebirds to meet under other than a threat on both their lives. Nothing gets the hormones pumping like some quality fear of not living to see another day.

One of the best things about this story for me is the author herself. 1Blue25 is a peach. I often fan girl in my reviews, and this is one of those authors that takes notice and makes a point to return the favor by giving you a review reply. She may not always answer your questions because what’s the fun in spoiling all the secrets, but she does make a point to connect with her readers. I love this because it makes you feel part of the story…like what you have to say might help her decide to spill more details because obviously the trail of breadcrumbs she’s left so far just isn’t adding up.  This is one of those stories that boggles your mind, each chapter leaving you with more questions than answers. The balance between mystery, suspense, and romance in this story is a perfect fit. I fell in love with Devil’s Pitchfork months ago, and I hope you will too.

The Gentleman from Washington State by Betty Smith

This review was written by the Beautiful and Angst Lovin' Snshyne

The Gentleman from Washington State
Original Author's Description: Senator Edward Cullen is the handsome scion of the Cullen family. A playboy's playboy, he is taken with an intern in his office, Bella Swan. She is untouchable for many reasons, and he's in a tough re-election battle with Jacob Black. AH,M Adult Content

The Gentleman from Washington State drives me crazy! It's been a while since I started a fic that I need to read the update the day it hits my inbox and I do with this one for three reasons: 1) She updates 2-3 times a week and I don't want them to get backed up; 2) I read a lot of fic on my iPhone and her updates are of a manageable length to read on the go (3K to 7K words); and 3) I seriously, seriously need to know what happens next.

I'm pretty sure I have never wanted an Edward and a Bella to get together so badly in all my fic reading days. And I think this is entirely due to their forbidden circumstances. Edward Cullen is a highly intelligent, well rounded, respected, gorgeous Democratic Senator representing Washington state in DC. At 17 he entered the US Naval Academy. Upon graduating at 21 he spends 7 years as a Navy SEAL (thud), then attends Yale Law School where he graduates and moves on to be an assistant District Attorney. Sadly, he is also known for his philandering ways with women. And while it's generally not scandalous, it does make a girl that is serious about a relationship question getting into one with him. Although Edward had always planned to pursue a Senate position, his quick rise to the Senate seat he now holds was due to the special election held as a result of the untimely death of his father, Senator Carlisle Cullen. Now, at thirty-two, Edward finds himself pitched against another resident from Forks for the upcoming Senate election - Jacob Black, Republican. This is also a good place to point out that this fic pretty much gives me free license to rationally hate Jacob Black and not even bother to have to explain my reasoning. I've given you one reason, you'll have to read to figure out the others.

Cue Bella Swan. Resident of Forks, Democratic Philosophy major, working on her thesis and studying for the LSAT in her senior year of college. She is a University of Washington student, but will spend her Senior Year at Georgetown in a sort of matriculation program and she is now an intern for Senator Cullen complete with a blue dress (please tell me you got that). In this story, Bella is innocent to a degree, but not naive. She has a good head on her shoulders and is capable of reasoning and making her own decisions, but she still has a lot to learn about the world. Immediately, Edward is intrigued by her. He finds her beautiful, but also intelligent and that's what really turns him on about her. He finds himself inexplicably drawn to her. Wanting to talk to her and get to actually know more about her. Turns out, they have a lot in common other than where they are from.

My favorite thing about this fic is that the author, Betty Smith, has taken Canon Edward's mind reading and translated it into Senator Edward Cullen's astute political prowess. The way he can make eye contact with someone and know what they are trying to convey. Or the fact that he can read a person and know how he should respond to convey what he means without being able to come outright and be direct with it is something I find very fascinating.

Here comes your angst factor: Edward is a sitting Senator, Bella is a college student and his intern, Edward is not the only man to notice how enticing Bella is, Bella has a past with Jacob Black and Chief Swan holds some of the Cullens' secrets in his lockbox that could possibly wreak havoc on Senator Cullen's campaign. I would also like to say that for once, I am glad Edward is not the black sheep of the family. It's nice to read him in a light where he is revered and not in a position where even his family has given up on him and the only one who sees any redeeming value in him is Bella.

This fic is a tangled web and Bella is the pretty, but deadly Black Widow spider.
