Cali, an SFFR reader, submitted a request to have an author-to-author interview between the-glory-days, author of such awesomeness as Alphabet Weekends and Life in Technicolor and cevuplay, who writes the incredible Superman Complex, which has been featured on SFFR. These two ladies were lovely to agree and I'll shut up now, because this interview is great! Enjoy!

From opposite sides of the country, two writers met and began a friendship that knew no bounds! With different time zones and three thousand miles, the two writers quickly realized that paper cups and a spool of string would not suffice as a means to communicate. Carrier pigeons were inefficient and a major time-suck, usually getting lost somewhere in Kansas and since owls only delivered post in Harry Potter’s world, the Internet, they decided, would have to work.
…..And now, onto the interview
cevuplay: I'm not quite sure how to really use wave, I never really took the time to learn..... haha. It will be an adventure. lol
the-glory-days: lol It's all good. Yeah. An adventure that readers can follow. :-) So where to begin. I guess we should start from the beginning.
cevuplay: That sounds so biblical.... What was Cali's question again? How did we meet and sustain a friendship from across the country?
the-glory-days: Cali asked, "You live a country apart, how did your friendship start & grow?"
cevuplay: Shheeeh. That was what, 2006? On Livejournal
the-glory-days: May 2007. We had both commented and read each others MCR slash stories and friended each other on LJ, but one day you made a post about your brother going off to the Army.
cevuplay: That's right! It was 2007! I wish we were friends longer than that I guess. hahaha. And you were so awesome commenting on that post about my brother. That's rightt!!!
the-glory-days: And then I went through a really nasty break-up a few weeks later and you asked for my IM SN, and we began talking everyday after that. :-) I also like to think I had a part in you reading Twilight. Sorry. ;-)
cevuplay: Oh god. Yeah. That's right. And now Twilight is my only fandom. Aww. Ok so now, how do we sustain that relationship right? Or how did it "grow"....
……. also; you're forgiven for getting me into Twifandom
the-glory-days: Oh yeah. What the hell did I make you read? I think it was Healing by freakyhazeleyes? Yes?
cevuplay: YES! (I can't type at All!!!) And then you gave me the Barflies and Boys or whatever fic that was. And thennnnnn Harry Potter fiction. lol
the-glory-days: lol You still haven't read Finding Himself. I've been trying to make you read since 2008. GET WITH IT WOMAN! It's my Potter canon.
cevuplay: NOOOOOOOO. I will get to it sometime. I promise
the-glory-days: lol So, how did we maintain our friendship? I guess through chatting online which later led to actual letters. Lol Remember our campaign to bring letter writing back?
cevuplay: Remember when I sent you Felis on your Christmas present?
the-glory-days: Oh yeah. lol Desecrating the Spanish language. Shame on you.
cevuplay: Did your mom laugh at me ?
the-glory-days: I'm pretty sure she did. She asked, "Why did Chelci (that's how she pronounces it, spell Feliz wrong?)
cevuplay: We should start letter writing again. That was fun. I
still have yours. They’re in a scrapbook.
the-glory-days: I have yours in a shoebox. You have the nicest stationery sets … So from comments on LJ, to IM'ing, to letter writing, to text messaging and then I FINALLY flew out to Cali in Summer ‘09. And I dragged you to Comic Con so I could drool over David Tennant. I couldn’t stop smiling; it was ridiculous.
cevuplay: CALIFORNIA!!!!!! Best summer everrr! Oh god, you fangirled so hard over Tennant. It was awesome. I got super burnt at Sea World. And we got to see elephants and bears and koalas at the zoo.
the-glory-days: yeah and before that was Disney, which I had never been to and San Francisco. Longest drive ever! God, I miss SF. God, it was awesome. We got some awesome cheese at the market. Oh, and that's where I got the idea for Life in Technicolor. It was so grey outside, it looked Black & white.
cevuplay: California is pretty awesome. You should come back already. hahaha.
the-glory-days: I hope to during Christmas. I've already started saving. :-)
cevuplay: YES! I'm excited about that. Ok, so onto Interview questions?
the-glory-days: lol talking about sidetracking. lol
cevuplay: AHEM; are you in the Twicloset? What the eff does that mean??
the-glory-days: Where did that question come from for starters? And I think it means, do any of your friends know you read Twilight. Participate in the fandom.
cevuplay: The FAQ's snshyne sent us
the-glory-days: And lord NO!! I mean, I've expressed that I've read the books, and I've dragged my friends to see the movies, but they have no idea how invested I am in it. I'm the Sc-Fi loving, comic-book reading über dork. They would be SHOCKED!
cevuplay: Ohh!! Everyone knows I read the books and the movies are faves of mine, but yeah, no one knows how invested I am. Fanfic wise. haha
the-glory-days: No one I know, knows that I write fanfic. Hell my friend, D, always criticizes people who write fanfic. So I keep my mouth shut and nod my head.
cevuplay: Fanfic has such a bad connotation man. I don’t think anyone knows I write it.
the-glory-days: It does and that sucks, but there are some truly talented writers out there that are just trying to hone their skills and FF provides a great outlet for that.
cevuplay: Oh, for sure. YOU. You're an amazing writer. and I agree, FF does give you that outlet.
the-glory-days: Oh please. You're far better than I am. But that's why I got into FF. I want to improve my story telling ability and progress my writing to where it's ready for publishers to marvel at it. lol
cevuplay: Um, hello, have you even read Alphabet Weekends? That shit is legendary.
the-glory-days: For a minute I thought you were gonna pull a Barney and go LEGEN-wait for it, I hope your not lactose intolerant because the next part is DARY.
cevuplay: lmao. omg. you just went there... lol
the-glory-days: You must respect the NPH. It's a COMMANDMENT! lol
cevuplay: I love NPH, no question. Speaking of NPH, my next interview question is; do you watch glee! (i know you do!) and if so, who is your favorite guest star and lead character?
the-glory-days: Favorite guest star was Kristin Chenoweth. Favorite lead, I like Finn, though he's not the best singer, but you've watched those videos I’ve emailed you. lol I love me a funny man.
cevuplay: boooo. I love me some Cory too. he's great. My favorite guest is Idina Menzel and my favorite character is Brittany.
the-glory-days: lmao Brittany. She's classic.
cevuplay: I think my cat's reading my diary...
the-glory-days: I was just going to write that.
cevuplay: because we’re ~twins
the-glory-days: lol So true. Let's see what’s a good question I can ask: Do you remember the first FANFIC you ever read?
cevuplay: In any fandom? shoot It was Gerard/Frank for My Chemical Romance, where Gerard is sent to his family relatives house? And he meets Frank and dances with him at a party? Come to find out it was only a coma dream? Do you know which one I'm talking about?
the-glory-days: I’m shit at remembering names and authors, fyi. Beats the hell out of me. First FF I ever read was a Harry/Hermoine chaptered fic on some HP site. Lol
cevuplay: lol
the-glory-days: So, though I know this answer: When did you discover Twilight?
cevuplay: When you told me to.
the-glory-days: It was my roommate's fault. She badgered me into reading. And then I had to wait for Eclipse to come out. I told you a few months before shooting on the movie started.
cevuplay: yeppp. And I didn't read it until BD came out. I'm still on the fence about BD.
the-glory-days: I've come to the conclusion that everything after the bed breaking and pillow biting that the story ended. Renesme who?
cevuplay: lol! Which brings me to my next unoriginal question (off the FAQ's) Who do you see as your characters?
the-glory-days: I think my Edward would be a combination of Jackson and Fernando Torres. :-) My Bella is a mix of Ellen Page and Kristen. They have similar traits and both fit well into the Bella mold. Everyone else is pretty solid. Though I think Nikki would have made a great Leah.
cevuplay: Yum, Jackson.
the-glory-days: Let's not go there because this entire conversation will head toward a completely X-rated direction.
cevuplay: guess who's seeing him Friday?
the-glory-days: This is me giving you the finger. __
cevuplay: lol, perpendicular sign?
the-glory-days: Shut up. Also, my new drug of choice is Cherry Coke Zero.
cevuplay: cherry coke zero? hmm. must try. i'm addicted to Starbucks.
the-glory-days: I know. You dragged me to the SB on the day we drove to Comic Con, though I think it had more to do with the barista. lol
cevuplay: zackkkkkkkkkkkk
the-glory-days: Does he still work there? He was cool and he and I both like Anti-Flag.
cevuplay: oh yes. he's so hot. and he's my fave
the-glory-days: He's definitely cute.
cevuplay: ok back on topic here. We’re deffff off track.
the-glory-days: One thing you can't live without? And I got that straight off the FAQ sheet!
cevuplay: crackberry, you?
the-glory-days: I still can't believe you got rid of your Sidekick. You were in love with it for years.
cevuplay: I sometimes miss my sidekick/ but mostly love my blackberry, Herbert, more
the-glory-days: I can't live without my iPod. Music is my solace. I need it. I crave it all the time. Your laptop was Humphrey?
cevuplay: Humphrey was the laptop, Herbert is the blackberry, Alfred is the ipod, Gregory is the car.
I name everything!
the-glory-days: I remember. Except for the cat. lol
cevuplay: poor fluffy toes. he doesn't even know his name.
the-glory-days: What the hell was his name?
cevuplay: Undecided. Do you write professionally? Do you aspire to? (From the FAQs)
the-glory-days: I've written for my school newspaper, but I haven't gotten anything major published, nor have I tried. I want to truly feel like what I'm handing out to publishing houses is fantastic, and I don't feel that way yet, maybe in the years to come.
cevuplay: Yeah, I feel like my prose writing can still use a lot of work. I find myself going through old pieces and finding plot holes and character changes, and the resolutions are always too rushed. Right now, I find that writing poetry leaves me without those feelings of being incomplete. And poetry is easier to get my emotions out. I've had one thing published (just freaking yesterday) and I love it. I don't think I could have sent my work in without loving it whole-heartedly.
the-glory-days: Ditto. That's why I think FF is a great way to work on that, especially since you can get feedback from readers immediately.
Exactly, I want to love my work and really feel like it’s worthy of being published.
cevuplay: Any piercings or tattoos? It’s funny, asking these questions, because I already know the answers. lol
the-glory-days: lol Seriously. I have several piercings. Three in each lobe, cartilage on the right, corkscrew industrial on the left, nose screw on my right nostril, (used to be a hoop-man I miss the hoop- Damn you Corporate America!), and I have two other things pierced. lol ;-) When I was in high school, I also had the right side of my lip pierced with an awesome black hoop.
cevuplay: I have three tattoos and four piercings. My piercings are pretty tame. I have the left side of my bottom lip pierced, which I currently have a stud in, although my hoop is my bff also. I have my ears pierced, and on my right ear, I have a stud in the middle of my ear, right before the cartilage.
My tattoos are pretty spaced out, one on my left shoulder of the LOVE sign, with the LO over the VE. I have a peace sign on the back of the right side of my neck, behind my ear, and I have Flower from Bambi tattooed on my left forearm.
the-glory-days: I remember you used to have a Monroe and at one point you had snake bites? Yes? I love your tats. Simple, clean, and pretty
cevuplay: I did have snake bites, and the Monroe all at the same time. haha. My sister called me "Edward Scissor Lips"
the-glory-days: haha lol. Besides me, have you met any fandom people? Twi fandom, cause I know you've met MCR.
cevuplay: I don't think I have, although two of the girls I follow on Twitter live in my area. But no, besides you, I don't think so.
You have though, right?
the-glory-days: Yeah, I had the pleasure of dining on several occasions with WriteonTime, littlesecret84, TallulahBelle, ciaobella27, & spanglemaker9. The first time we were supposed to meet, I almost didn't go. I legitimately had a ton of crap to do for class, but you know, I'm terribly shy around new people, but I'm glad I went. They are some genuinely lovely women.
cevuplay: :] How do you handle negative reviews and comments?
the-glory-days: Most of the negative comments I receive are legitimate criticism and I take that into account when I write other things. However, some criticism hurts, I'm not gonna lie, because some people in any fandom are really negative. It's the power the Internet provides, but I keep a word document with all the negative comments and I refer to them when I'm writing a new story or chapter to see where I can improve, be it my sentence structuring or the way I present a situation and so forth.
cevuplay: I don't keep any documents, but I've been relatively lucky in the respect that most of the reviews I get are positive. I know I don't keep a set posting timeline, and that's generally what my negative comments/reviews/PMs are about, and while I do take them into account, I can't really do anything about it right now.
Which brings me to my next question: what do you use to write on (laptop/iPod/etc) and where do you typically like to write?
the-glory-days: My laptop is generally where I write and mostly at home, but I find myself writing while I'm at work a lot of times. Sometimes I get inspiration on the 5-train home and I'll write on the DocumentsToGo app on my phone or iPod, depending on which has more battery to waste at the moment. :-) you?
cevuplay: Right now, I'm back to the good ol' pen and paper, which kind of works in my favor, because when I do get to type it all out, it's like an editing process, I can add or delete words while I go. I plan on getting a Macbook, (hopefully soon - but we all know - or should know- that I suck at saving money) If I get inspiration; I sometimes write quotes, lyrics, and thoughts into my notepad app on my blackberry, and then go back to it later. because I'm on the computer all day for work (without any real internet access) I like to sit with my spirals and write, it's mostly just poetry lately, and SC sometimes; as well as a new thing I'm working on with snshyne's help. What’s your favorite Disney movie? I <3>
the-glory-days: I carry a black composition notebook with me at all times to write down quotes I find. That's the great thing about the subway; there are all these famous quotes on the ads along the top of the train. I'm currently on notebook #17 and it's an Umbrella Academy one. It's awesome and says: THIS COMPOSITIONAL WRITING DEVICE BELONGS TO:
the-glory-days: I know you do. My favorite is Aladdin. I love it! The music, the Genie. Coolest thing EVER!
cevuplay: I'm more of a Beauty and the Beast kind of girl, myself. Hah always have been. What fan fics are you reading right now? which author are you most fond of right now?
the-glory-days: I'm actually not reading a story at the moment because I took a mini-break from the fandom to just focus on life and writing. But I'm up for suggestions.
cevuplay: Sweets817, gave me the suggestion of something that was super awesome. It was a TA/Student fic called Weight of Words, it's a WIP, sooo good. I'm also in LOVE with Mac214 (I love Ryeward!) its a WIP to, about Scottish Edward needing a wife to stay in the US., so good. I don't really have any others right now. Anything by Mac214 I've found, I love
the-glory-days: I couldn't get into Weight of Words. I couldn't get into that Edward. I've heard good things about Ryeward.
cevuplay: BK!! Read Ryeward. That's about it for me in the fandom right now. I've got a lot of RL changes coming up, so I've been getting really stressed.
the-glory-days: Oh yeah. When do you move to school?
cevuplay: I have my orientation on Friday, and then a housing orientation on Sept 10. I don't actually start class until Sept 21. Are you going back to school for Fall, or are you taking a semester off?
the-glory-days: wooo *wipes sweat off brow* I just ran down the block and back. lol
I start again on Monday :-(
cevuplay: Why were you running down the block? lol! Also, most of my friends start back Monday too. Not me though, I have another month to go. Woohoo Quarter system!
the-glory-days: Had to track down the UPS guy to hand him something urgent. lol Lucky, though the quarter system is hectic.
cevuplay: Yeah, and I found out that a few of my classes - while transferable - aren't equivalent to the UCR courses. I still have math and science credits i have to take, along with my major courses
the-glory-days: Ouch. That sucks. I don't know what else to write for this interview
cevuplay: ME EITHER! do you have the FAQ sheet? Maybe we can use those?
the-glory-days: If you could give one book to someone what would it be? Why? And to add to that, what ALBUM would you give them?
cevuplay: Book, right now I’d say The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, because I love that book so much. It’s got a great message and it’s a fun read. Album, I’d give Frank Sinatra’s Greatest Hits album, because there’s a song for every mood on it. Some of them are sad songs about lost love, or a night on the town, or happy love. What about you?
the-glory-days: I added the album thing. Music is a big thing for me and I know for you as well. Lamb by Christopher Moore. I love this book so hard. It's funny, intelligent, and just so clever.
Album probably, The Bends by Radiohead. I can listen to this album from start to finish. I adore it.
cevuplay: I think that’s a good place to end it.
Now that you see how crazy we are; we're utterly off our front porch rockers, I'm sure you're waiting with bated breath for our next projects, right? Well, you, our dear readers, are in luck. The-glory-days and cevuplay are teaming together, capes and face masks, to save the literary day with a collaboration of awesome, seasonal fun. Keep your eyes to the sky for our wouldbe bat signal. When you see it - it will probably look like a coke can with whipped cream and a straw - you'll know that the Christmas Collab is complete.
... Or you could just look out for our story by alerting us, whatever's easier for you.
For now, we say adieu, adios, and aloha, the-glory-days & cevuplay
For your convenience - here are the links to all the stories and authors mentioned in tonight's interview:
